Born in Bohemia, Anton Edvard Pratté (Antoine Edouard Pratté, 1796-1875) was a well-known figure in the nineteenth century as both harpist and composer, yet he was forgotten after his death. Delphine Constantin-Reznik, principal harp of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, came across his music while searching for fresh repertoire, and his name and his works have now been brought back into the light.\n\nPratté was born in 1796 into a family of travelling Bohemian puppeteers, entertaining audiences between the acts on a small harp known as the \"David's harp\". He later moved to Sweden, where he made his name, touring Norway and Finland and, in the 1840s, performing in Berlin, Vienna and Prague. He also served as conductor of the Norrköping Orchestral Society, the forerunner of today's Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, and died on 23 May 1875 in the village of Ledberg, west of Norrköping.\n\nThree works by Pratté are recorded here. The Grand Concert for harp and orchestra is in three movements: an \"Allegro con spirito\", a Romanza marked \"Andante arioso\", and a Rondo, \"Polacca alla svedese\", inspired by folk music. The performance uses the edition published in 2018 by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in its Swedish Musical Heritage (Levande Musikarv) series. The Theme and Variations on a Swedish Folk Tune consists of a \"Sarabande\" on the children's song \"Katten och killingen\" (The Cat and the Kitten) followed by seven variations. Souvenir de Norvège: Fra Fjell og Dale is a \"romantic fantasy\" built on four melodies: \"En liten Gut ifra Tistedal'n\", \"Å kjøre vatten og kjøre ved\", \"I fjol gjett je gjeita\" and \"Stusle Sundagskvelden\".\n\nConstantin-Reznik studied with Annie Fontaine at the Conservatoire de Boulogne-Billancourt and with Catherine Michel at the Zurich University of Music and Theatre.
