In 2022, Johann Wilhelm Wilms (1772-1847), a composer who lived at the same time as Beethoven, celebrates 250 years since his birth and 175 years since his death! Born in a small village in the Bergisches Land on the right bank of the Middle Rhine River, Wilms was taught piano and composition by his father and older brother, and taught himself to play the flute. He later married the daughter of a wealthy Amsterdam art collector, from whom he benefited greatly. His works were frequently performed in Amsterdam and Leipzig. Willems, who is also known for having written the Dutch national anthem, left behind idyllic and pleasant works, mainly symphonies, chamber music, and concertos. To celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth, the Cologne Academy, led by Ronald Brautigam and Michael Alexander Willens, has recorded the five surviving piano concertos by Willems, the \"Dutch Beethoven.This album is the first collection of three pieces. In this performance, Brautigam reconstructed the pieces from the existing score with the advice of Willens, and the light and graceful melodies are fully appreciated.
