Part of the highly acclaimed Mahler series led by Osmo Vanska and the Minnesota Orchestra. This recording features Symphony No. 10. As with his other performances, Vanska’s signature meticulous structure and breathtaking attention to detail are on full display. The delicate and thoughtful musical craftsmanship is truly captivating. The recording itself is also noteworthy: it naturally captures the orchestra’s overall sound, allowing listeners to fully appreciate the unity of the performance.
The full scope of this unfinished masterpiece, Symphony No. 10, first came to the public’s attention when the BBC commissioned Derrick Cook to complete the work based on the drafts in 1959—the year prior—for a concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of Mahler’s birth. Vanska uses the third draft (second edition) of the Cook edition (1976), which is the final version. This was published in 1989 by Goldschmidt and the Matthews brothers following Cook’s death.
Vanska, who has left a legacy of numerous recordings on the BIS label, has achieved the highest level of performance in his series of Mahler symphonies. To date, the series includes Symphony No. 1, “The Giant” (KKC6034/BISSA2346); Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection” (KKC5995/BISSA2296); Symphony No. 4 (KKC6131/BISSA2356); No. 5 (KKC5831/BISSA2226), No. 6 (KKC5994/BISSA2266), and No. 7 (KKC6184/BISSA2386) have been released to date.
Vanska, who became music director of the Minnesota Orchestra in 2003, earned acclaim for his complete Beethoven symphony cycle, among other achievements. However, labor-management conflicts intensified due to the orchestra’s deteriorating financial situation, and in October 2012, management implemented a lockout. As a result, the entire 2012–13 season was canceled, and the very survival of the orchestra was called into question. Vanska returned as chief conductor in January 2014 after a labor-management agreement was reached, and since then, the Minnesota Orchestra’s performances—now marked by greater unity—have become even more profound and intense.
King International

Tracklisting:

1.Symphony No. 10 in F sharp major~I.
