This release features two of Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphonies arranged by Barshai, along with an exotic collection of works arranged by Vasile Nedea, a renowned Romanian cimbalom virtuoso. The Romanian Romani dances and Russian Jewish folk dances reach a frenzied climax, but if you listened to them without knowing their origins, you might mistake them for works by Shostakovich.
