The Reykjavik Skola Cantorum (Skola Cantorum Chamber Choir), a choir based in this church and founded by choral conductor Horzl Auskelson in 1996, has taken hope and comfort from the deep sorrow of bereavement in the choral works sung at this event in their new album \"Meditation, Macmillan's \"The Children's Prayer\" mourns the students and teachers killed in the 1996 senseless killing at an elementary school in the Scottish town of Dunblane. Tavener's \"The Lamb\" on a poem by William Blake. Lauridsen composed the third piece, \"Light from Eternal Light (Lux Eterna),\" on the occasion of his mother's death in 1977.Eric Whitaker, another leader in American choral music, composed \"Golden Light\" on a Latin translation of Edward Esch's poem about the birth of Christ. The Latvian Ešenvalds' \"O Sacrifice of Salvation,\" with text taken from a chant written by St. Thomas Aquinas for the Eucharistic Prayer. Lord, now you are\" based on \"The Gospel according to Luke\" (chapter 2, verses 29-32), one of Pärt's masterpieces. The Icelandic piece, with its characteristic \"parallel fifths,\" is also an essential part of the Hattorgrím church's repertoire. The text is based on a traditional Icelandic poem by Joonas Hatlgrímsson: \"The dandelion sleeps, beautiful in the field. ......\" Joon Reifs' \"Requiem\" is in memory of his daughter Lieve, who was lost in a water accident. Anna Thorvaldsdóttir's \"Hear us, O God in the heights of heaven,\" based on an old Icelandic melody. Hörður Auskelsson and Húgi Gvmsson's \"Rest\" was composed on the same poem by Snorri Hjaltarsson - \"Silent lakes cover my path over the mountains in stillness, in the darkness of the night. ......Sigurður Sævarsson and Fraisal Ingi Solsteinsson, who sing the bass parts in the Schola Cantorum, will also sing a piece. Lord, Now You Are,\" based on the same text as Pärt's piece. Freizal Ingi's piece was composed in memory of Solketr Sigurvjörnsson, one of the pioneers of contemporary Icelandic music and the composer of \"Now the Sun Sets\" and \"Hear, O Heavenly Creator\" on this album. Members of the Schola Cantorum sang solo and polyphonic roles in the pieces by MacMillan, Whitaker, Eschenwals, Ingei, and Pelto. The recording session took place at the Hatlgrím church, which has a large space.
