This recording marks the 100th anniversary of the premiere. Also included are “Sigh,” written for strings, harp, and organ—composed around the same time—and “Elegy,” all of which are beautifully performed with a sense of melancholy.\n★As a Finnish conductor, Oramo specializes in the works of Nordic composers, particularly Sibelius; however, he has been captivated by British music—especially Elgar’s orchestration—and has been actively exploring it in recent years.
