The first volume of Swedish composer Stenhammar’s string quartet collection is here!\n\n★SACD hybrid disc. Recording has begun on the string quartets—masterpieces left behind by Wilhelm Stenhammar, one of Sweden’s leading composers! While Stenhammar is best known as a successful pianist and composer, it’s important not to overlook the fact that he also composed works in a wide variety of musical forms, including operas, symphonies, concertos, and vocal music. The string quartets included here represent the finest works for understanding Stenhammar’s artistry.\n★He began writing his String Quartet No. 3 in F major, Op. 18, in 1897, but due to his work on the opera “Tirfing,” it was not completed until around 1900—about three years after he began it. It is a beautiful work featuring rich unisons and distinctive melodies in each voice. The String Quartet No. 4 in A minor was composed between 1904 and 1909. One can sense the grace of the first violin—reminiscent of Saint-Saëns’s String Quartet No. 1—and the meticulous precision of the ensemble. The Elegy and Interlude from the suite *Songs of Rodolessi* were composed in 1919. This work features a sobbing violin melody that intertwines exquisitely with the warm viola and the deep bass of the cello.\n★Formed in 2002, the Stenhammar String Quartet—true to its name—focuses primarily on the works of Stenhammar and has earned high acclaim both in Sweden and abroad. In recent years, the quartet has also focused on contemporary music and has received numerous commissions from composers in the United States, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere. With their overwhelming technical skill and interpretive depth, they are a quartet to watch in this series.\nKing International\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"BIS","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53595401421089,"sku":"7318599916590","price":3490.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/7318599916590.jpg?v=1790480987","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/products\/7318599916590","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
