Sibelius was one of the first 27 members. In the early days of the lodge, he also served as the organist, performing works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Handel, as well as improvisations. The ceremonial music Sibelius composed on commission from the Finnish Freemasons was written the year after his symphonic poem *Tapio* (1926). “Opening Hymn,” “Thought Is Our Strength,” “Processional and Hymn ‘Though the Young Leaves Are Green’,” “Processional and Hymn ‘Those Who Have Never Shed Tears Over Bread’,” “How Beautiful Is the Earth,” “Salem: ‘Go Forward, Brothers’,” “All Souls Yearning with Passion” <funeral march> were premiered on January 12, 1927, and in 1946, two pieces—<hymn of fraternity splendor brothers united> and <hymn the voices praising your name resound>—were added, which are considered his final compositions. *Masonic Ritual Music* was composed primarily as songs accompanied by the harmonium; it was later revised to include a version for male chorus. The pieces and their order differ between the manuscript and the published score; the Helsinki Male Choir, conducted by Hannu Jürm, Harri Viitanen, and Matti Huokki, added 〈Hymn “Lord on High”〉—composed on a different occasion—and 〈Finlandia Hymn〉, based on a poem by Veino Sola, who sang the solo at the premiere and to whom the work was dedicated. They perform these “12 pieces” in the order listed in Dahlström’s catalog of Sibelius’s works.
King International</hymn></hymn></funeral>

Tracklisting:

1.Musique religieuse (Masonic Ritual Music), for tenor, male voice choir and organ, Op. 113: Avaushymn
2.Musique religieuse (Masonic Ritual Music), for tenor, male voice choir and organ, Op. 113: Avaushymn
3.Musique religieuse (Masonic Ritual Music), for tenor, male voice choir and organ, Op. 113: Alttarin
4.Musique religieuse (Masonic Ritual Music), for tenor, male voice choir and organ, Op. 113: Alttarin
5.Musique religieuse (Masonic Ritual Music), for tenor, male voice choir and organ, Op. 113: 1DEG..
