These include *Liederkreis* (Song Cycle) (Op. 24) and *The Poet’s Love*, both set to poems by Heine; *Myrtle Blossoms* (Op. 25), set to 26 poems by Ruckert, Moser, and Heine; *12 Poems* by Kerner, *Liederkreis* (Op. 39) based on poems by Eichendorff, and *A Woman’s Love and Life* based on poems by Chamisso—these collections, considered his masterpieces, were written during what is known as Schumann’s “Year of Song.” A new album featuring works from 1840 and the 1852 *Poems of Mary Stuart*, based on German translations of poems written by Mary, Queen of Scots—who clashed with Elizabeth I—during the days leading up to her execution.\n\nMezzo-soprano Marianne Beate Schellan (Kyrant) (b. 1975) has established herself as one of Europe’s leading singers and has recorded over 50 albums, including LAWO Classics releases such as Grieg (LWC1059), Mozart (LWC1111), and Mahler (LWC1157). Baritone Johannes Weisel (b. 1980), who sings the *Liederkreis*, was cast in the title role of Mozart’s *Don Giovanni* in René Jacobs’ recording and has appeared on Grieg’s *Peer Gynt* (Chandos CHSA5367) and a song collection (Simax PSC1310), Ståle Kleyberg’s *Mass for a Modern Man* (2L136SABD), and Beethoven’s opera *Leonore* (Harmonia Mundi HMM902414), among other highly acclaimed and popular albums. Pianist Nils Anders Mottensen (b. 1971) has recorded Schumann’s works, following his *Violin Sonata* (LWC1110) with Arvid Engegård and *Piano Quintet* and *Piano Quartet* (LWC1189).
