It was reorganized as a professional orchestra in 1989. Since 2013, Sakari Oramo has served as artistic director, succeeding Kangas, and in the fall of 2019, Maroj Broman of Sweden assumed the role of music director.\nAn album commemorating the orchestra’s 50th anniversary will feature the music of “roots music composer” Viljami Niittykoski (1895–1985). Niittykoski was born in the Salonkula district of Kustinen, where the Folk Music Festival is held every July. He earned a living as a cabinetmaker and by working on the farm his parents had cleared, growing up surrounded by the music passed down by the local people. At the age of 19, he composed his first piece, “The Rose of Memories,” and in the early 1930s, he gathered local fiddle players to form the “Salonkula Orchestra.” By the time of his death in 1985, he had composed over 100 pieces.\nThis album features “secular and religious songs and choral works modeled after composers of the National Romanticism period, such as Oskar Melikanto, Levi Madetoya, and Heikki Kremetti,” “Salon Orchestra-style instrumental pieces,” “short folk-style pieces written for the Kustinen Folk Music Festival.”\nWith the exception of *Let’s Play with Sounds*, which was orchestrated by Nytköski himself, the pieces were arranged by Timo Ala-Kotila (1959–), Ilukka Kotaja (1980–), Lauri Plakka (1962–), and Kreeta-Maria Kentaara (1964–) from *Folk Season* (ABCD402). *Sounds of Nature*, arranged by Plakka, is a short piece consisting of five sections: “Spring Birds” at a “fairly fast tempo,” “Rippling Waves” and “Cuckoo’s Call” with “natural rhythms,” and “Whispering Pine Needles” and “Coda” performed “slowly and deeply.”\nKing International\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Alba","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53374644191521,"sku":"6417513104684","price":2421.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/6417513104684.jpg?v=1787632168","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/products\/6417513104684","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
