A miraculous reissue of a 1974 independent record by a Welsh outsider with beefheart elements! Half farmer, half musician, Oliver Chaplin is one of Britain's rarest private cult recordings, recorded in 1974 on his family's remote farm in Wales using a TEAC 4-track recorder with the help of his brother Chris, a veteran BBC sound engineer who had participated in sessions with Syd Barrett and others. Surrounded by animals and birds, Oliver sings and multi-tracks with echo-filtered acoustic and electric guitars, homemade fuzz pedals, etc., and plays mutant psychedelic blues (like Captain Beefheart) and acid folk. Despite the limited means of home recording, the timeless sound quality is impressive. 250 or so copies were pressed by Oliver himself, and although Virgin expressed interest in distribution, he turned down the offer.
