He later served as the orchestra’s chief conductor from 1963 to 1979 and again from 2010 to 2020, raising it to world-class standards and building a strong relationship with the ensemble.\nThis release features a collection of live recordings from a concert held in 2019 at the Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn. The two-CD set features Brahms’s *German Requiem*, in which he fully draws out the expansive sound of the prestigious Latvian National Choir to create a flowing performance, and Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4, “Romantic,” which races through at an astonishingly fast pace of just over 49 minutes (14’38”\/10’11”\/7’38”\/16’53”). Yarvi’s Bruckner has garnered attention for his approach, which sets a relatively fast tempo even in past recordings, setting him apart from the many heavyweight interpretations. His original and intriguing interpretation remains intact in this recording of the \"Romantic\" as well.
