633367797926
Xtc - Drums And Wires (Steven Wilson Mix) - Import CD+Blu-ray Disc

Credits:

Xtc

XTC's classic album "Drums & Wires" is now available on the 2025 CD/Blu-ray Audio set, featuring many additional Dolby Atmos tracks and mixed and produced by Stephen Wilson.

One of the treasures of the post-punk era, XTC, whose musical diversity was unimaginable two years ago, delivered an early masterpiece with their third album, 1979's Drums and Wires, produced by Steve Lillywhite.

Andy Partridge recalls that it was a hopeful time for the band. The addition of Dave Gregory on guitar (replacing organist Barry Andrews, who left after the release of "Go2") and the twin guitar/bass/drums lineup brought a change in style. Despite the busy touring schedule, the band spent a lot of time working on new songs. Partridge and Colin Moulding both gained confidence as songwriters, and the album further cemented their reputation for unparalleled post-punk pop tunes. The fact that Steve Lillywhite and engineer Hugh Pajam provided the appropriate studio support and recording expertise for the more epic songs such as "Roads Girdle The Globe" and "Complicated Game" also helped take the album as a whole to a new level of perfection. The album as a whole was taken to a new level of perfection.

Released in early September, Drums and Wires spent seven weeks on the UK Albums Chart, and the album's lead track, "Making Plans for Nigel," became another first for the band, reaching the UK (and world) Top 20. The optimistic outlook during the recording sessions proved to be correct.

The new Dolby Atmos mix includes all of the (now long unavailable) 2014 audio material first released when Steven Wilson remixed the album in the new stereo and 5.1 editions, plus minor changes and the album's stereo instrumental set, plus a number of additional tracks released on Blu-ray.

The original album mixes are also included in high-res stereo, and the Blu-Ray edition also includes DJM mixes of potential single releases, as well as numerous full demo sessions that trace the evolution of the album, making it truly a virtual box set on a single Blu-Ray disc. It is a virtual box set. All stereo material is recorded in 24/96 LPCM stereo, and 5.1-channel material is in DTS-HD MA audio format. If you are fortunate enough to hear this album for the first time, you will realize that pop music has never been this great.
