Pianist Michael Walney, now the face of ACT, has released two new albums at the same time, a live album "Wartburg" and a studio album "Oslo"! This is a live recording from Wartburg, Germany. The trio performs mainly as a trio, with guests joining from the eighth track. On drums is Eric Schaefer, whom the trio has known since their debut album "Call It [em]" (2005), and on bass is Christian Webber from "Nachtfahrten" (2015). Guest soprano saxophonist Emile Parisien and Walney met in Seoul many years ago and actually played together for the first time on Vincent Pelani's (ACCO) "Thrill Box" (2013), which is played without interruption from the first to the seventh track, and includes the members' The first seven songs are performed without interruption, but include originals by the members, songs by American singer Scott Walker, classical music by Paul Hindemith, and free improvised songs, which are sublimated into their own worlds. The fourth and other tracks show the extreme of progressive and close improvisation that Joachim Kühn and John Taylor pioneered in European lands.From the 8th song, Emile Parisien joined the trio and the sound became European contemporary jazz. This was the first time the trio had met Emile, and they had only a few rehearsals, but the quality of the music was excellent, with a fresh tension that seemed to have worked in the right direction.
