While the fourth movement of the former is the only one included on the DG release, this complete recording finally reveals the work in its entirety.\n\nArgerich’s recordings of Beethoven’s piano sonatas are extremely rare—she has not released a single official recording—but this one is even more magnificent than expected. Rich in drive, passion, and inspiration, it captivates the listener so completely that time seems to stand still. Furthermore, although the recording of “Scènes d’Enfance” predates the highly acclaimed 1983 DG release by 18 years, one is enchanted by the gentle, motherly, and loving tone of her piano. In contrast, in the “Toccata,” she displays razor-sharp technique that is utterly thrilling.\n\nProkofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 features a collaboration with the legendary conductor Karl Melles. While this is one of Argerich’s signature pieces, the energy radiating from her youth is what makes this period so captivating. All of these recordings are previously unreleased.
