Both pieces are lyrical and melodious; while they evoke the influence of Mahler and Shostakovich, they are unmistakably full of Weinberg’s distinctive style. The earnest prayer in the “Sonata Fragment (Largo)” is deeply moving, evoking a sense as if the world were coming to an end.\nThe Piano Trio, composed by Weinberg—who was also a master pianist—demands extremely advanced technical skill.
