Recorded on a hybrid SACD, the sound quality is excellent.\nSymphony No. 5 is a light-hearted work performed with an orchestration that omits the clarinet, trumpet, and timpani. De Friend delivers a supple sound without rushing the music, presenting a full-bodied sound characteristic of a modern orchestra. Symphony No. 6 is said to have adopted the style of Rossini, who was immensely popular at the time; the final movement features music reminiscent of a scene from an opera, with a succession of different scenes.
