It is filled with a lyrical and beautiful sound reminiscent of the late Romantic period and incorporates material from Korngold’s own film scores. Bernstein’s “Serenade” is a violin concerto consisting of five movements—“Phaedrus-Pausanias,” “Aristophanes,” “Luximachus,” “Agathon,” and “Socrates–Alcibiades”—a total of five movements—and was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Foundation. It was premiered in 1954 with Isaac Stern as soloist. Lisa Fershtman is a violinist born in the Netherlands in 1979. In 2006, she received the “Dutch Music Prize,” the country’s most prestigious award. She has previously released recordings such as Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto (CC-72748), which have been well received. While Korngold and Bernstein are generally strongly associated with film scores and musicals and tend to be underappreciated as classical composers, Fershtman states that this is because people simply do not understand the brilliance of these works, and she delivers a deeply heartfelt and passionate performance of these two pieces. Please take your time to enjoy these two masterpieces, considered the two greatest American violin concertos of the 20th century.
King International

Tracklisting:

1.Violin Concerto, Op. 35: Moderato nobile
2.Violin Concerto, Op. 35: Romanze
3.Violin Concerto, Op. 35: Allegro assai vivace
4.Serenade after Plato's "Symposium": I.
