On ECM, American pianist Krispel previously contributed to Jormin’s album *In Winds, In Light* (2004), and she cites this Swedish bassist as a figure who has influenced her musical thinking.\n“When I heard Anders play, I felt a resonance that struck a deep chord within me,” Krispel comments.\nThe album opens with a powerful series of duo improvisations that are deeply attuned to the space, before transitioning into compositions by each musician. “Three Shades of a House” is a piece Jormin first performed on his collaboration with Bobo Stenson, *Contralaindecision*, and here it is presented as variations on “Morning” and “Evening.” The former is an exploration of a crystalline theme that brings Krispel to the forefront, while the latter is a meditation driven by a dark-toned bass. Krispel’s “Newquay Beach” sketches the Cornish coastline, with Jormin’s high-register bowed bass evoking the cries of seagulls. The album concludes with “Dragonfly,” a tribute to Gary Peacock.
