Between the unmistakable trumpet wail of Leo Smith and the textured key strokes of Vijay's piano and Fender Rhodes, an ethereal iridescent light shimmers, evoking a multidimensional space of thoughtful musical dialogue. As Vijay notes in his extensive liner notes, \"We each work in our own language and with our own material.\"\n\n\n\nThe first long track, \"Sumud,\" evokes an ominous sense of foreboding, \"Floating River Requiem\" lends itself to bluesy undertones, and \"Elegy\" offers bright signs while harboring doubts.The silver linings of doubt in \"Elegy-The Pilgrimage\" and the devastatingly beautiful final track, \"Procession-Defiant Life,\" are all part of a larger-than-life meditation on life, and the album is a perfect example of this. If this album is a meditation on life, that sense of wonder is on full display here.
