Live from the 10th Chopin Competition in 1980! Angela Hewitt, the greatest Bach player of our time and goddess of the keyboard, is still fresh in our memories from her masterful performance of J.S. Bach's \"Goltberg Variations\" (Hyperion\/PCDA 68146). Now, the Chopin Institute (NIFC) is proud to present a rare recording of the 22-year-old Hewitt performing \"Chopin\" at the 10th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland, in 1980. The 10th International Chopin Piano Competition was a sensational event, with Dan Tai Son becoming the first Asian to win the competition, the genius Pogorelich being eliminated, and Argerich resigning as a jury member. In the competition, young Hewitt was applauded by the audience for his sense of creating exquisite phrases with a perfect grasp of Chopin's characteristic tempo rubato, and for his refined tone.Hewitt, who later went on to become a world-class pianist, brings here a rare record of his time in Warsaw.
