After studying Polish literature and philosophy at the University of Warsaw, he studied piano and music theory at the Warsaw Conservatory. He then went to Paris to study under Nadia Boulanger, though it is said he took only a single lesson with her. He began his career as a composer, critic, and writer during the war; in 1932, he published his first review in *Echo Week*, drawing attention for addressing not only music but also political issues and a variety of other topics. In 1939, he returned from Paris and was appointed music director of the radio station “Warsaw II.” He was working at the radio station during the Warsaw Uprising, but it is said that most of his works were lost in the fighting (they were later reconstructed).\nAfter the war, he settled in Kraków, where he devoted himself to magazine editing and political activism, eventually gaining recognition as an outstanding journalist. At that time, he was also a member of the parliament under the communist regime, and after moving to Warsaw, he served as a member of the Sejm.\nThis album features works brimming with his vigorous creative energy. As mentioned earlier, some of the pieces were destroyed by fire during the war, but he rewrote others or revived them in different forms; listening to them in sequence offers a window into the world of this unique composer. The works themselves are remarkably diverse, ranging from pieces with a faint hint of his French period—reminiscent of Debussy—to those influenced by Prokofiev, whom he deeply admired. Herein lies the joy of discovering an unknown composer.
