With an instrumentation of four violins, two violas, two cellos, double bass, flute, clarinet, bassoon, and piano, the sounds produced by each musician feel remarkably intimate.\n\nAdams’ *Shaker Loops* is a masterpiece of post-minimalism, originally written as a string septet for three violins, a viola, two cellos, and a double bass. It later became commonly performed by string orchestras as well. The original version included here retains the delicate sound characteristic of chamber music as its core, achieving a striking effect.\n\nClosing out the album is “Miran,” a bassoon quartet written for a classical ensemble by the famous jazz trumpeter Marsalis.
