A beautiful album. From 1575 to 1577, Venice was hit hard by a plague that wiped out one-third of the population. The people began building the \"Church of the Redentore\" to pray for the end of the plague and to give thanks to God, and in 1599 the church was completed, and music by the best musicians of the time was successfully performed. This album is a re-creation of the music that resonated in the Church of Redentore, but also reflects on the nature of music in today's post-Corona world. 2022's new work, Robert Keel's \"From Darkness to Light\" is included in this album, which moves back and forth between the two eras. From Darkness to Light\" is a piece written in the Baroque language, with an orchestration that accompanies the Concerto Palatino. It is a terribly beautiful work that is at the same time a powerful prayer. The music by the two Gabrieli and other masters of Venetian Baroque is also superb. The sense of moving toward the light while mourning and regretting is moving throughout the album.
