Sasha (Alexander) Rozhestvensky is the son of conductor Gennady Rozhestvensky and pianist Postnikova. His Nisei collaboration with Yehudi Menuhin's beloved son Jeremy has amassed a collection of rarities that will surprise even Shostakovich fans. The unfinished 1945 Violin Sonata, recently released on a world premiere recording by Linus Ross, is surprisingly convincing, perhaps because of his father's close friendship with Shostakovich before his death. Tsyganov's arrangements for violin of the Preludes have become a popular repertoire, and he also arranged the second movement of the String Quartet No. 4. As the first violin in the Beethoven Quartet, he was also the world premiere performer of the original work, and his knowledge of the music is evident in this beautiful arrangement. Even more interesting is Shostakovich's arrangement of Stravinsky's \"Symphony of Psalms\" for four hands. This is a gem of an arrangement from 1930, shortly after its composition, in which he masterfully handled a large chorus-dominated ensemble with his unique pianism. Jeremy Menuhin plays in perfect harmony with his beloved wife Mookie Lee-Menuhin. World premiere recording. A smiling one is also a world premiere recording of a double soprano and mezzo-soprano version of Braga's Serenade, which has long been popular in Japan as \"Serenade of the Angels\". Shostakovich's craftsmanship is on display.
