Although influenced by the Nationalist school, his later works took a neutral approach, incorporating elements of the neoclassical music that was popular in the United States at the time. He is a rather intriguing composer who wrote pieces grounded in the traditions of the Russian Orthodox Church for his sacred works, while composing modern pieces for his instrumental works. This collection of works for viola consists mostly of previously unpublished pieces, but each one is captivating and vividly conveys the essence of this composer.
