His Symphony No. 3 takes as its theme the ideological oppression under Russian communism; Kereem himself has stated that he was inspired by the idea of musical struggle, a tradition stretching from Shostakovich to his student Tishchenko. The String Sextet shares a mood similar to Schoenberg’s “Verklärte Nacht” and R.
