In 1960, he recorded "MOTOR CITY SCENE" with baritone saxophonist Pepper Adams in a twin-headed combo, along with Tommy Flanagan (p), Kenny Burrell (g), Paul Chambers (b), Louis Hayes (ds), and other talented musicians also from Detroit. MOTOR CITY SCENE" was recorded with a group of talented musicians also from Detroit, including Hoagy Carmichael at the beginning of the album.
