The release comprises three discs: two CDs and one DVD. The score he chose is based on the standard version of 1741, with some numbers substituted from the versions performed on several occasions up to the early 1750s, giving the work greater expressive scope.\n\"A lifetime of performing Messiah has given me the courage to record this incomparably famous music. Now, surrounded by some of the finest musicians and soloists on earth, I am finally ready to leave my own personal interpretation for posterity,\" says John Nelson.\nThe CDs also include eight bonus tracks presenting alternative versions of well-known arias.\nThe performers are the period instruments and chorus (around 40 singers) of The English Concert, founded by Trevor Pinnock.
