He creates cinematic soundscapes by shifting his tone from black and white to color, just like in a movie, and has completed his first new album in two years. His latest work "A BRIEF NOSTALGIA", which is a meditation on a time gone by, will be released simultaneously on vinyl and analog. Matteo Myderwyk is a composer/pianist based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He is releasing a new album, his first in two years. His latest work, "A BRIEF NOSTALGIA," is an album of 12 pieces composed for various pianos, harmonium, organs, church organs, synthesizers, and drum computers. In this album, Middelvik does not look back sadly on the past, but rather is aware of the passing of time. In it, he reflects on the church organ he played as a child, the pop songs he listened to as an adolescent, and his now vanished freedom from boundaries. In the songs, he changes his tone from black and white to color, just like in the movies, and this concept is also reflected in the three music videos shot in the Ardennes region of Belgium, where he has many fond memories of his vacations. The album's opening track, "Eternity," was also inspired by a movie. The film is "Eternity and a Day," a 1998 film by Greek director Theo Angelopoulos about loneliness and the longing for eternal peace. In the song, Middelvik evokes infinity through an endless circle of harmony created by repetition, reminding the listener of the timelessness of being allowed to be somewhere without purpose. In "Nostalgia," the organ and piano sound as if they are engaged in a duel, while "Legacy" is an elegant piano piece that pays homage to the Dutch minimalist composer Simeon ten Holt and his famous work "Canto Ostinato. The percussive "Long Lost Friend" is in the key of E-flat minor, "the darkest key," according to Middelvik, and "Sarabande for Julia," a solo piano piece dedicated to his niece who died young, is perhaps the most personal piece on the album. The eighth track, "Benediction," is an interlude that serves as a bridge to the second half of the album. This is the only track on the album where the piano is eliminated and the organ and synthesizer show a strong interrelationship. The following song, "Homard," is a fast-paced number with a composition whose themes overlap each other like mirror images. The album closes with "Poeta Minora," an unusual 5/8 novel about a poet who is aware that his work is always overshadowed by others, but continues to write nonetheless, and who believes that everyone should start with "Poeta minora" inside him, He says that it expresses his strong belief that one should not be overly concerned about the opinions of those around him.The work produced by Matteo Middelvik, like the poet's shadow work, may not be mainstream, but it is certainly authentic.

Tracklisting:

1.Eternity
2.Nostalgia
3.Sanctus
4.Poeta minora
5.Legacy
6.Long lost friend
