5051083228732
Trio Ernest & Eleonore Billy - The Wonderful Adventures Of Amanda Maier: Trio Ernest Eleonore Billy(Nyckelharpa) - Import CD

Amanda Meyer (1853–1894), born in Sweden A record celebrating her talent and character The sound of the nickelharpa, a traditional Swedish instrument, is also captivating Amanda Meyer was a musician with a strong presence in the music world of her time, but over the years, her name gradually faded into obscurity. This CD features not only Mayr’s works but also pieces from the German Romantic period, performed as piano trios and on the nickelharpa—a traditional instrument from Mayr’s native Sweden (also known as a “keyboard violin,” It is shaped like a large violin and features a keyboard attached to the strings; the player adjusts the pitch of the strings by pressing the keys with the left hand while playing with the bow in the right hand). Meier was born in Sweden in 1853. She began her musical training under her father’s guidance, starting with the violin and gradually mastering several instruments. At the age of 16, she entered the Stockholm Conservatory, where her talent immediately attracted attention. There, she studied not only music theory and instrumentals but also composition. Later, with financial support from King Oscar II of Sweden, she devoted herself to further study in Leipzig, where she studied under Engelbert Röntgen, who was then concertmaster of the Gewandhaus Orchestra. As she frequently visited the Röntgen household, she eventually married Julius, Engelbert’s son, who was a pianist, violist, and composer. In 1875, while studying under Karl Reinecke, the Kapellmeister of the Gewandhaus, she composed a violin concerto (only the first movement of the three-movement work survives today). She later moved to Amsterdam with her husband Julius, and it is said that Brahms, Grieg, Anton Rubinstein, and Joachim were among the guests who visited their home. It is believed that she performed “Swedish Folk Songs and Dances” on such occasions. Meier, who had never been in robust health, gave birth to two children; although she subsequently suffered from pleurisy and was convalescing, records indicate that she performed Brahms’s Violin Sonata from the manuscript in front of Clara Schumann. She suffered from illness in her later years, though it is said that those around her were unaware of her condition. On June 15, 1894, she reportedly passed away peacefully while resting after giving music lessons to her two sons. The Piano Trio in E-flat Major, a beautiful fusion of German Romanticism and Swedish folk traditions, remains unpublished, yet it captivates with its fresh, effervescent melodies. Along with works by other composers associated with her, this program celebrates Meyer’s talent.
