This time, she has turned her attention to Naples—a city she describes as “essential to understanding the rise of the cello as an instrument.” In late 18th-century Naples, it was a common sight to see Neapolitan folk songs being sung on street corners, accompanied by mandolins, violins, and percussion instruments. Gaillard sought to recreate this atmosphere and reportedly put together the program with the assistance of musicologists. The album offers a rich variety of content, ranging from the folkloric charm of pieces like the tarantella and *La Folia* to the virtuosic concertos of Nicola Violenza, a violinist of that era. Once again, the album features guest vocalists, including Pio, creating an enjoyable atmosphere that makes you feel as though you’ve wandered into the streets of Baroque-era Naples.
