Although she was part of the same generation as the “Group of Six,” she remains relatively unknown. She studied composition and organ at the Paris Conservatory. Because her husband became a double bassist and saxophonist with the New York Philharmonic during the Toscanini era, she lived in the United States for several years, where she was introduced to the world of Gershwin’s jazz.\nDuluc composed numerous saxophone pieces for her husband, and these works came to be performed by renowned virtuosos such as François Combel and Marcel Mule. Even today, her “Saxophone Sonata in F-sharp Major” remains an important part of the instrument’s repertoire.\nAlthough many of her saxophone works remained unpublished, they were finally released by Biyodo in 2020, so it is safe to say they will become an important part of the repertoire going forward. The Ellipsos Quartet has promptly recorded these works with their masterful artistry. With their bold use of rhythm and harmony, these pieces offer a unique fusion where the worlds of Ravel, Stravinsky, Gershwin, and Debussy intersect.
