The program features not only the romantic original compositions of Ippolitov-Ivanov, known for his \"Caucasian Landscape,\" and the fairy-tale-like pieces of Prokofiev, but also the brilliant world of Kseniya Erdely and Walter Kühne, both former harpists. Erdely's Russian sentiment and Walter Kühne's potpourri of famous melodies, including the gorgeous waltz from Tchaikovsky's opera \"Evgeny Onegin,\" are both charming. Albert Zabel (1834-1910), although German, was a harpist at the Mariinsky Theater. It is said that Tchaikovsky created the harp parts of \"The Sleeping Beauty\" and \"The Nutcracker\" with him in mind. Other highlights include Balakirev (an arrangement of Glinka's songs), Mussorgsky, Glinka, and Rachmaninoff's richly sung lyrical works arranged for harp by the performer herself, Alexandra Luichanu. Alexandra Luichanou is a young French harpist who studied under Norrman. In addition to performing in a duo with a contrabassist, she is eager to experiment with various endeavors, including a three-harp ensemble with her teacher. He shows a special love for Russian music, and intoxicates the listener with a world of extreme beauty, rich in songfulness, and exquisite elegance.
