This collection of works for orchestra includes: Jazz Suites, Ballet Suites, Overtures, and Film Music. Brilliant Classics, original new recordings. What is noteworthy here is that Kuchar, a Russian master conductor, is also in charge of conducting. Kuchar has earned a reputation for his recordings of Kalinnikov's symphonies and a series of Prokofiev recordings for Naxos. This is a rich three-disc set that conveys a strong sympathy and deep understanding of the masterpieces by the country's greatest composers. Some people may consider suites and film music lighter than Shostakovich's symphonies and string quartets, but the quality of the works on this disc speaks for itself and deserves a thorough listening. At a budget price, this is a highly recommended disc.

Tracklisting:

.Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 2: March
.Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 2: Dance No. 1
.Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 2: Dance No. 2
.Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 2: Little Polka
.Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 2: Lyric Waltz
.Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 2: Waltz No. 1
.Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 2: Waltz No. 2
.Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 2: Finale
.Overture on Russian and Khirghiz Folksongs, for orchestra, Op. 115
.Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 1: Waltz
.Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 1: Polka
.Suite for Jazz Orchestra No. 1: Foxtrot
.Novorossisk Chimes (The Fire of Eternal Glory), for orchestra
.Festive Overture, for orchestra in A major, Op. 96
.The Age of Gold, suite from the ballet, Op. 22a: Dance
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Romance
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Intermezzo
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Nocturne
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Scene
.The Gadfly, suite from the film score, Op. 97a (assembled by Atovmyan): Finale
