There is much here to intrigue: the opening of Sonata No. 1 anticipates the beginning of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2, while parts of Sonata No. 3 call to mind Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 5, the \"Spring\". The performers are two Russian-born period specialists long resident in the Netherlands and Germany.\n\n【About the works】\nBoccherini's violin sonatas\nBoccherini was a virtuoso cellist, and it is his cello writing that attracts most attention today. Yet the violin has always been the star among string instruments, and it was in fact with a set of violin sonatas – the Op. 5 – that the young Boccherini scored his first major success as a composer in Paris.\nOp. 5 is a treasury of expressive, beautifully shaped melody, and it clearly held a special place in Boccherini's own affections: he later reissued the whole set and reused material from it in other works.\n\n＜Igor Ruhadze (baroque violin)＞\nBegan his career as a solo violinist at the age of twelve, appearing with the Odessa Symphony Orchestra in Vieuxtemps's Violin Concerto No. 5. He graduated with distinction from the Moscow Conservatory and won prizes at numerous international competitions, including first prize at the Taneyev International Chamber Music Competition in 1996 and first prize at the Locatelli International Competition in 1997. In 2002 he graduated with distinction as an early music specialist from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He performs across Europe as a soloist in repertoire from the Renaissance to contemporary music, and tours worldwide.\n\n＜Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya (fortepiano)＞\nThe Russian-born pianist and harpsichordist Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya has won considerable acclaim as both soloist and chamber musician. In 2009 she graduated from the Faculty of Historical and Contemporary Performing Arts at the Moscow Conservatory, studying piano, harpsichord and fortepiano in the class of Professor Olga Martynova. She continued her studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, taking a master's degree under Richard Egarr and Menno van Delft, and in 2015 completed a master class diploma with Professor Christine Schornsheim at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.
