These works by forgotten composers revive the rich tradition of the *Lauda Spirituali*.\nLauda Spirituali are congregational hymns that originated in medieval Italy; they are sung in the local language rather than in Latin, the liturgical language, and are associated with figures such as St. Francis of Assisi and Jacopone da Todi.\nFrancisco Soto de Langa, born in Spain in 1534, joined the Sistine Chapel Choir in June 1562 and performed as a castrato.\nIn Rome, he also met St. Philip Neri, the founder of the Oratorio. The *Lauda Spirituali* included on this album are works composed and arranged for Neri. The tradition of regional hymns evolved from unison singing—in which multiple people sang a single melody without accompaniment—to harmony, simple polyphony, and eventually to more elaborate compositions with instrumental accompaniment. These songs and hymns are, at their core, popular and accessible in character.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Brilliant Classics","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53374658838817,"sku":"5028421961644","price":1881.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/5028421961644.jpg?v=1787632232","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/products\/5028421961644","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
