The emergence and breakup of The Smiths became the biggest event in the British rock scene of the 1980s… The Smiths—a legendary quartet consisting of Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke, and Mike Joyce—continue to command an immense presence even today as one of the most influential bands in the history of British rock. The two “Perfect Best” albums they released in 1992 have finally been reissued, spanning over 30 years! This is the vinyl edition of *BEST...II*, released as the second installment of the “Perfect Best” series! The Smiths are now recognized as one of the most influential bands in British rock history. Inspired by Johnny Marr’s musical genius and Morrissey’s lyrical world, countless imitators have emerged, but no band has yet managed to capture their astonishing dynamism. The Smiths—featuring the duo alongside Andy Rourke (bass) and Mike Joyce (drums)—are often cited as key pioneers of Britpop, and all associated movements, and their influence—along with the bands that emerged as their followers—has brought about a major transformation in British music. In 1992, following the transfer of their catalog to Warner Music Group/WEA, two greatest-hits albums were released by the label. These were *BEST...I*, released in August 1992, and *BEST...II*, released in November of the same year. Although these were best-of albums compiling their past songs, *BEST... I,” despite being released five years after the band’s 1987 breakup, reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, and the single “This Charming Man” (originally released in 1983), which was re-released with this album, peaked at No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart, reaffirming the greatness of The Smiths. Its follow-up, *BEST...II*, also reached No. 29 on the UK Albums Chart, and the single “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out” (originally released in 1986), which was re-released from that album, peaked at No. 25 on the UK Singles Chart. Now, 30 years later, these two greatest-hits albums are being reissued on CD and vinyl! While The Smiths are well-known for their striking artwork, the cover of this 1992 greatest hits album featured a photograph titled “Biker Couple,” taken in 1961 by the renowned actor Dennis Hopper. The same photograph is used on these reissues, and *BEST...I* and *BEST...II* are positioned as a single work comprising both albums, including their content and artwork. Furthermore, this marks the first time these greatest-hits albums have been released on vinyl since their original 1992 release.
