Description:

Arguably one of the greatest pianists of all time, Martha Argerich's relationship with the label dates back to her victory at the 1965 International Chopin Competition. Since then, this box contains numerous live and studio recordings spanning several decades. Gramophone magazine described Martha Argerich as "arguably one of the greatest pianists of all time. Her relationship with the label dates back to her victory at the 1965 International Chopin Competition. In the decades since, she has made numerous live and studio recordings with the label, spanning three centuries of repertoire, a variety of genres, and with such luminaries as Charles Dutoit, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Gidon Kremer, Mischa Maisky, Itzhak Perlman and other luminaries. This box contains all recordings from EMI Classics, Teldec, Erato, and Warner Classics. Her special delight in musical collaborations with exceptional talent is key to the second half of this collection. It is a live recording made at the Lugano Festival in Switzerland between 2002 and 2016 and released by the former EMI Classics and Warner Classics. Argerich has been performed in solo works and concertos, but especially in close collaboration with her fellow performers, whom she regards as her "musical family." Martha Argerich was born in Buenos Aires in 1941, and Gramophone magazine has described her as "arguably one of the greatest pianists of all time, whose legendary pianism, fiery virtuosity, and imaginative vitality are unique in the history of piano performance. Her relationship with Warner Classics and its past and present labels spans more than 50 years, beginning with her legendary 1965 Chopin recordings. Pianist Magazine wrote, "Few musicians have earned such esteem from colleagues and juniors as Martha Argerich. Warner Classics pianist Stephen Kovacevich, a close friend of hers, said, "Her sound is wonderful. She has a natural gift, and she loves to showcase it.It is contagious," she says. Argerich's career is unconventional, which adds to her charm and mystique. Her artistic range is broad, but she concentrates on a relatively limited and varied repertoire. She performs a limited number of concerts per year and in the past has been notorious for canceling concerts at the last minute if she feels she is not at her best. She is also a generous mentor to young artists, especially through her "Progetto Marta Argerich" at the Lugano Festival in Switzerland. (1/2) Warner Music Japan
