Maitrise Notre-Dame De Paris
Description:
A Magnificat for the Reopening of the Restoration of Paris-Notre Dame CathedralThe Choir of Paris-Notre Dame Cathedral is a nearly 800-year-old tradition preserved by the temple's supporters. With a history dating back to its founding in the 12th century, the choir's repertoire ranges from the Middle Ages to works by contemporary composers, On December 8, 2024, five and a half years after the devastating fire of 2019, the great Notre Dame Cathedral will once again open its doors to the public. Restoration work is still ongoing, but project director Philippe Jost promises that the cathedral will return to its original form, "magnificent, high, wide, and full of light," as it was designed nearly 900 years ago. The reopening will be officially celebrated with the release of a new Magnificat choral work by organist and composer Yves Castanet. Castagné has held the position of choral organist at Notre Dame Cathedral since 1988 and also directs the cathedral's affiliated choral school, La Metrise Notre Dame de Paris. The first public performance of The Magnificat will not take place until the fall of 2025.This is because Notre Dame's choral organ is still under repair and has taken time to rebuild after a fire damaged it by a large amount of soot and water. This recording was made at Sainte-Clotilde Cathedral, Notre Dame's temporary home, with Castagné himself playing the organ. The cathedral's organ was built in the 1850s by the renowned Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, and César Franck was the cathedral's organist for over 30 years. The Magnificat has been a close companion in my daily life for more than 30 years." In fact, the text is used daily in the Catholic liturgy and sung every evening as part of the evening service. And every evening, as part of the service at Notre Dame Cathedral, the Magnificat is accompanied by the singing of the Magnificat on the organ. The Virgin Mary's own words, sung in this cathedral dedicated to her...one cannot help but be moved by the power and beauty of this text," said Castagnese. Warner Music Japan
