Guitarist Robbie Robertson, a core member of the band, worked as a session guitarist and producer after the band’s breakup and released his first solo album, *Robbie Robertson*, in 1987.\nFeaturing contributions from U2’s Bono and Peter Gabriel, among others, the album reached No. 38 on the U.S. album charts and was certified gold. He later revealed that he was of mixed Jewish-Canadian and Canadian Indigenous heritage and began creating music influenced by traditional Native American (Indigenous) music. Then, on his third album, *Music for the Native Americans* (released in 1994), he created a collection of songs that fused traditional Native American music with his own musical style.\nTo recreate this album live, Robbie Robertson—who disliked giving concerts—led his backing band, The Red Road Ensemble, in just two concerts in Italy in 1995; the concert held on May 13 on the island of Sicily was recorded and broadcast by Italy’s state broadcaster, RAI. Featuring guest artist Rita Coolidge—a Cherokee Native American who had achieved success in pop music—the concert a live performance that incorporated traditional American Indian rituals.
