After releasing their fifth album, *Houses of the Holy*, in March 1973, they embarked on the *North American Tour 1973*, a series of 34 concerts limited to North America. During this tour, the concert held on May 13 in Mobile, Alabama, was recorded for a radio program, but due to a tape-changing error, the final two songs were not captured; instead, a portion of the performance was broadcast to promote the album and the tour.
