The combination of roaring guitars and melodies and the US alternative taste represented by Hüsker Doe brought the band into the limelight. The legendary \"Loveless,\" which took 18 engineers to occupy the studio for two and a half years, costing 250,000 pounds and nearly bankrupting the label, was released. The combination of layers of roaring sounds and sweet melodies, and Shields' guitar playing that utilizes noise and feedback, has created a new phase in the scene. His staring at the floor-mounted effectors became a kind of music genre called shoegaze, and created a category-defying culture that has had a tremendous influence to this day. After a long period of silence, he surprised the public with the release of \"m b v\" in 2013.\n\n\n\nAs the band toured Europe after the release of \"Isn't Anything,\" a gig at a live house in Lyon, France on March 21, 1989 was recorded and broadcast for a local RFI radio program. The roar of the guitars and cymbals drown out the singing, which barely reaches the eardrums, yet the audience is whipped into a frenzy.
