This year, too, a wide range of musical genres was featured.\n“Railway” by Shinya Takahashi, commissioned through the “School Band Project,” can be performed by as few as 10 musicians (10 parts plus 3 optional parts), while “Poem of the Earth” by Hiroki Takahashi can be performed by approximately 20 musicians (with flexible parts), and both pieces are set at a relatively low difficulty level. The album also includes the uncut versions of Hirokazu Fukushima’s “Variations on the Theme of ‘Soma Ryuzan’” and Jun Chosei’s “Sometimes the Road Is Beautiful,” both of which were performed at the 2013 National Wind Band Competition. Works by masterful composers such as Soichi Konagaya, Toshio Majima, and Naoshi Hoshide are also worth noting.
