The 2013 “Naniwa OW” concert—which took center stage—features not only the complete set of required pieces from the annual wind band competition but also an unmissable, two-disc set packed with music!\n\nIn 2013, in addition to Mr. Maruya from Yodo Technical High School—who has served as guest conductor ever since the first event in 2003—we welcomed Mr. Takaki Hatada from Tokai University Takanawadai High School as a guest conductor. Mr. Hatada had just capped off his third consecutive appearance at the National Wind Ensemble Competition with a Gold Prize for his performance of C. Smith’s *Festival Variations*, and capped off their third consecutive appearance with a Gold Prize. This marked Mr. Hatada’s second appearance at “Naniwa OW” since his debut in 2008. This special collaboration with symphony orchestra musicians captivated the audience with their overwhelming technical skill and exquisite ensemble playing!!\n\nThe program opened with Reinicke’s *A Day Off in Hopetown* and featured masterpieces by Macbeth, Olivadoti, and Reed, as well as *Tritico* by Neribel—a first for the ensemble!
