In addition to six instrumental and chamber music works—including “Strata XIII” (2019) for flute and clarinet, a world premiere commissioned by the Art Tower Mito, and the clarinet quintet “Quinc Balance II” (2017), as well as “The Flower of Sango-ju,” a song he composed during his junior high school years, and the 2018 orchestral work “Beyond This Wind.” Please enjoy these outstanding performances by exceptional musicians.\n\n\u003cshinichiro ikebe\u003e\nBorn in Mito City in 1943. Graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1967. Completed his graduate studies at the same university in 1971. Won first prize at the Japan Music Competition in 1966. That same year, he also won first prize at the Ongaku no Tomosha Chamber Music Composition Competition. In 1968, he received the Ongaku no Tomo Award. Since then, he has received numerous awards, including the Salzburg TV Opera Festival Excellence Award, the Italian Broadcasting Corporation Award (three times), the International Emmy Award, the Arts Festival Excellence Award (four times), the Otaka Award (three times), the Mainichi Film Competition Music Award (three times), and the Japan Academy Prize for Outstanding Music (nine times). In 1997, he received the NHK Symphony Orchestra Arima Prize; in 2002, the Broadcasting Culture Award; in 2004, the Medal with Purple Ribbon; and in 2011, the Yokohama Culture Award. Works: Symphonies Nos. 1–10; Piano Concertos Nos. 1–3; Cello Concerto; the operas *The Grim Reaper*, *Hōichi the Earless*, *Rokumeikan*, and *Kōya no Hōshi*; as well as numerous orchestral works, chamber music pieces, choral works, and Japanese-style compositions. Scores for approximately 70 films, including *Kagemusha*, *The Ballad of Narayama*, and *Unagi*; music for approximately 470 theatrical productions by the Haiyuza, Bungakuzo, Mumeijuku, and others; and TV series such as *The One-Eyed Dragon Masamune* and *Mio Tsukushi* , “Genroku Ryoran,” and “Future Boy Conan.” He is the author of numerous books.\nCurrently serves as Visiting Professor at Tokyo College of Music, Director of Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall, Music Director of Tokyo Opera City, Director of Western Music at the Ishikawa Prefectural Concert Hall, Director of the Music Division at the Setagaya Cultural Foundation, Vice Chair of the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ National Cultural Festival Executive Committee, Chairman of the Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association, as well as serving as a director or council member for the New National Theatre, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the Broadcasting Culture Foundation, and others. He is a member of the Seven-Person Committee for World Peace Appeal.
