Listening to this segment will leave you feeling truly happy—and you’ll likely find yourself a little wiser.\nThen there is the well-known suite “Space Battleship Yamato.” As part of a Great East Japan Earthquake relief project, all proceeds from the sale of the sheet music and the composer’s royalties were donated to the disaster-stricken areas through the All Japan Band Federation, making it once again a hugely popular piece among wind band fans.\nThe title track, “A Streetcar Named Desire,” is based on the play of the same name by Tennessee Williams, set in New Orleans, USA. However, when the story was adapted to take place during Japan’s Taishō era, scripted, and staged by the Creative Dance Theater, Akira Miyagawa composed the music. This production was performed as Japanese classical dance. In January 2011, the Paris performance of this creative dance production was a resounding success. This concert features his latest work—an arrangement of that music created specifically for this occasion—marking the world premiere of the wind band version.
