Following three singles that sold out immediately, they’re releasing their long-awaited first LP!\n\nGUNK is a punk band formed in Tokyo in 2022. The members are drawn from bands that have been active in the punk\/garage scene since the 2000s (including TheGimmies, WAR\/ZIT, THEHEADBANGERS, TheRaydios, and TheFaceful). Their sound is characterized by an aggressive and tight style reminiscent of ’70s and ’80s punk and Detroit rock ’n’ roll.\nThey initially began with a style heavily influenced by Australian punk bands such as GOD, The Saints, Eastern Dark, and The Chosen Few. In 2023, Suzuki (formerly of Young Ones and Raydios) joined as drummer, completing the current lineup and further refining their punk rock sound.\nWhile their sound evokes American rock ’n’ roll and hard punk bands like The Angry Samoans and The Consumers, it also features the raw yet tense, catchy melodies characteristic of alternative punk rock bands such as Wipers and Mission of Burma. Their sound is reminiscent of Michigan’s The Fix and Melbourne’s Venom P. Stinger and Seminal Rats, while also possessing the sincerity characteristic of Radio Birdman.\nThey have been performing live primarily in Tokyo, and all three of their previously released singles (including a split EP) sold out immediately. In June 2026, they served as the opening act for The Chats’ Japan tour, and in August, they embarked on their first overseas tour (to Australia).
