Because its initial release had an extremely limited print run, it became famous as a rare recording. The program features nine of his former students (including Akutagawa and Mayuzumi), each of whom composed a short piece (around 2 minutes long) based on themes from their teacher’s works, which they premiered at this event before presenting them to him. It’s a celebration of the “honor” that is truly befitting of a composer’s students.\nThese relaxed performances all feature the unmistakable Ifukube style—recognizable from the very first listen (the conclusion of Maeda’s final piece is particularly compelling!). One can almost picture the heartwarming scene. Maki Ishii, the mastermind behind the event, conducted, and the album also includes the three other pieces performed that day. The content is sure to appeal not only to Ifukube fans but also to fans of Japanese composers in general.
