This is a famous collaborative recording featuring the renowned German pianist Kemp and the French virtuoso Fournier, known as the “Prince of the Cello.” At the time, Kemp was 69 and Fournier was 58; both were established as undisputed masters of their craft.\nFournier’s cello—with its soft, resonant, and richly full-bodied tone, fluid phrasing, and profound expressiveness—sings a fresh ode to youth in Beethoven’s early works (Nos. 1 and 2), pursue a musical drama with powerful energy in the middle-period works (No. 3) of the “Forest of Masterpieces,” and bring to life both deep meditation and radiant spiritual beauty in the late-period works (Nos. 4 and 5). Furthermore, Kemp’s piano—at times receding into the background behind Fournier, at other times stepping forward—weaves sound with truly diverse nuances, masterfully reflecting the shifting moods of each scene through its timbre.\nThis musical dialogue between two veterans is truly rich in depth, and it is a recording that conveys the meaning and essence of a “duo” to the listener more clearly than any words could. We are reviving this classic album, which is well-known to us here in Japan, along with its original jacket design that captures the atmosphere of that era.\nIn terms of sound quality, consistent with our established concept, we have used audio sources digitized from the original masters via high-bit, high-sampling (192 kHz, 24-bit) for the CD masters. As a result, you can enjoy a higher-resolution, smoother tone compared to previous releases. The booklet features a newly written introductory essay.
